Write for at least 30 minutes. Make sure you address all of the following questions. Do your best to use a variety of vocabulary that you know, write complete sentences, use connective words to write longer sentences, write as much as possible and be thorough without being repetitive.

  • What are some popular trends among St. Anne's students in 2017? Describe two of them in detail. 
  • Why are they popular? 
  • What is the role of money in popular trends? Do popular games and products usually cost more money? 
  • Do trends happen by accident (por casualidad) or can someone turn an everyday game or product into a trend?

Practice at least 15 minutes of Spanish per day, including the weekend. Once you have done each of the following activities at least once, choose what you want for the remaining two evenings of homework.  

  • Read an article or feature in Spanish (Periódico El GanchoESPN DeportesThink SpanishNewsela) Focus on comprehension: use the title to make predictions, figure out the main ideas and information, pay attention to words and phrases that are key to the article’s topic. Summarize the article in Spanish in your cuaderno.
  • Write in Spanish for at least ten minutes. Choose a question or two from the question sheet we used in class, then, write non-stop for ten minutes about that question in Spanish. You may write in your cuaderno or in a Google Doc. If you choose to write in a Google Doc, make sure you share it with me.
  • Talk with a classmate or someone else in Spanish for at least ten minutes. Choose a question or two and say as much as you can. Once you’re done, think of what you might add if you were to talk about the same question/s again. In your cuaderno write what you talked about. Also write about what you felt went well and what felt like a challenge. Then, get a signature from a parent or other adult confirming that you spoke for teb minutes. 
  • Analyze, improve and rewrite something you have already written. Choose one of the writings you’ve done this week. Re-read it, analyze it and look for ways you could make it better. Then, rewrite it with your changes (add detail, add vocabulary you would like to add, change sentences, go deeper (why? opinion, etc.)

2. Prepare for the retake (Tuesday during Bloc) if you are taking it. Here is a link to the first test if you want to use it as a practice test or guide.

2. On a piece of paper, brainstorm--in Spanish--some things you could talk about in conversations about both the story of the little girl living with monkeys in India and the Unicorn Frappucino story. Are there related topics that pop into your thoughts? What are some connections between the topics and your life and reality? What opinions do you have? What are some questions you could ask to keep the conversation going? Be prepared to talk about your many ideas tomorrow. Your brainstorm can just be notes; it does not have to contain complete sentences.

IN CLASS SUB PLANS 

1. Play the two songs for March 2 (scroll down on this page http://www.senorashby.com/locura-de-marzo-week-1.html) for the class. (A student can help you navigate to the page if you need assistance.) After watching the music videos together, students will vote individually on the laptops. They did this yesterday, so they know what to do.

2. Then, each student should open a Google Doc and write at least one Mad Lib in Spanish.

  • Choose one of these themes for your Mad Lib (that is, your Mad Lib should have something to do with one of these themes): Carnaval, una fiesta de disfraces, o vudú.  

  • Use words and phrases from our word wall in your Mad Lib, especially from the lists on the right side of the wall.

  • Write your own individually, but you may consult with classmates. No headphones.

  • If you finish one Mad Lib and there is still time left before dismissal, you may start on your homework (see below).

  • Make sure you share your Google Doc with me at the end of class.

Homework for Monday:

1. In another Google Doc, make a list of 8 or more weekend activities, some that you like to do and some that you have to do. For example, Me gusta cocinar el desayuno con mi papá. Tengo que limpiar mi habitación. Share the Google Doc with me.

2. Do 2016-2017 8.7 Quizlet for 10-15 minutes. Log in if you want homework credit for your work.

Listen to Video 1: Vivir la vida and Video 2: Mi primer millón for Locura de marzo (March Madness) again. As you listen, you'll start to hear certain words and phrases over and over and might be able to sing along. Try out some dance moves, too.

  • Describe the childhood of a parent or other adult you know well. 

There will also be one other question you will write about, but it will be a surprise. 

Remember: communication matters the most, not correctness and perfection.

Write a story of at least 7 sentences.
