Holiday Volunteer Opportunities 2008
Thank you for volunteering with Volunteers of America this holiday season. Below is a list of holiday activities that are in need of volunteer support. Monday, November 24th, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Food baskets for limited income families will be distributed on at 2877 Lawrence Street. We are recruiting 50 volunteers for three hour shifts to personally hand clients the baskets. Contact Jason Owens at 303-297-0408 X 13158 to volunteer.
Deliver Thanksgiving Day Meals on Wheels
Thursday, November 27th, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Various locations across Denver)
100 volunteers are needed to assist the Meals on Wheels program by delivering a hot nutritious meal to a homebound individual on Thanksgiving Day. Groups of two or more are welcome. This usually takes about one to one and one half hours to complete. Contact Jessica Koehler at 303-297-0408 x 13123 to volunteer.
Substitute Drivers for Meals on Wheels Routes Thanksgiving Week
Monday, November 24th - Wednesday, November 26th and Saturday, November 29th
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to substitute for regular volunteer drivers who deliver meals to homebound seniors. Some of the routes are hot meals that need to be delivered before 1:00 p.m. and some routes are frozen meals with more flexible delivery times. Individuals, families or groups of two or more are welcome. This usually takes about one to two hours to complete. Contact Jessica Koehler at 303-297-0408 x 13123 to volunteer.
Basket of Joy Assembly and Delivery
Saturday, December 6th, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to assemble and deliver fruit baskets to frail, homebound seniors who otherwise would not receive a gift or visit during the holiday season. 5,500 baskets will be given out in the Denver area. Please call 303-297-0408 X 13168 to volunteer.
Christmas Basket Distribution
Monday, December 22nd, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Adopt-a-Family & Adopt-a-Program
Individuals or groups are needed to “adopt” a family/program for the holidays by supplying the family/program with holiday gifts. No direct client contact due to confidentiality protection. A profile of the family/program is provided for gift selections. Call Nicole Harr at 303-297-0408 X 13152 to participate.
Christmas Day Dinner at Sunset Park Senior Center
Thursday, December 25th, 9:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
30 volunteers are needed to help set up, serve and clean up the Christmas dinner. Please call Connie Leake at 303-297-0230 to volunteer.

Christmas Sunday Service and Dinner at the Mission
Sunday, December 28th
Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve dinner. Interdenominational Church Service will be held at 12:00 noon and dinner will be served at 1:00 p.m. - everyone is welcome. Please call Tamela Dabney at 303-295-2165 to volunteer.
Head Start Winter Celebration Party
Monday and Tuesday, December 15th and 16th
The Volunteers of America Head Start program is in need of 85 preschool books (70 in Spanish) and 85 preschool games i.e., Chutes and Ladders, Hi-Ho Cherry Oh, Candyland, Go Fish, Hungry Hippo, etc. The teachers would also like to provide each family with a gift card from Target, Kmart or Wal-Mart for $10 - $20 so parents may select a special gift for their own child. They will also need wrapping paper, tape and ribbons for 85 packages. Volunteers may assist by assembling and wrapping the gift packages. Contact Anne Conklin at 303-297-0408.
Adopt-a-Room
Individuals, groups, churches or businesses can help out by adopting a room at the Volunteers of America Brandon Center for victims of domestic violence and homelessness. Volunteers are asked to furnish and decorate a room. Creativity is encouraged. Call Christel Maldonado at 303-620-9190 to volunteer.
